The mission of the Sims-Fayola Foundation is to improve the life outcomes and experiences of young men and boys of color and to increase the capacity of youth service professionals to deliver their programming through an equity and gender-specific lens.
PARENT TESTIMONIAL
"It is the end of the 20-21 school year and as parents, we think, "What to do now?” My son came home with fliers and told me about the Sims Fayola Young Men's Group that he really wanted to be a part of. We are involved with church Young Men groups, but this opportunity seemed to address other experiences of growth.
During the following weeks, he would share how his surroundings were a "safe zone" where each Young Man could speak or ask about life circumstances. Through discussions, they found comforting answers and positive ways of thinking. There were moments of clarity about how life is not always better for others than in our own lives. Instructors shared hardships and triumphs of life as examples of how to face life, to keep going no matter what.
As much as I would hope that I can shape and influence my son’s life for good and teach him what he needs to know, I trust that he has learned much while attending the Sims Fayola Foundation.
Everything from being in nature and learning safety from wildlife, fishing, and campfires, the experience of firemen, policemen, and FBI to the adrenaline of the Rockies sports camp-- everything came with a surprise. I am grateful for this foundation and look forward to being involved more.”
